(Steve Posting now)
We are really enjoying the Spanish lessons here at the school ("Intercultural"). Each afternoon they offer additional activities, from extra language coaching, time to speak with locals who are interested in practicing their English (or other languages as students seem to represent nearly every region of the world, other two students in my class, for example, hail from Norway and Estonia) to Argentine cultural opportunities. Erin and have signed up for two of these extras, Tango lessons on Tuesday and a wine-tasting class on Thursday. There is also a drumming class on Wednesday which we will skip in the interest of family time and an Asado (typical Argentine barbecued meet extravaganza) on Friday which we will have to miss as we will be en-route to Bariloche.
The Tango lesson was quite an interesting experience. It was held on a small patio in the garden of the school. Only Erin, I, and Ellen, my classmate from Norway, signed up. The teachers, Paulo and Miquela, were two young local dance instructors. Miquela spoke perfect English but was under instructions from the school to only speak Spanish.
I learned quite a bit about the dance, though I have to admit to having two left feet when it comes to this sort of thing. As those of you who know her can imagine, Erin wasn't keen to act the role of follower in this dance, in which the Male typically leads entirely and is often the only one who can see where the dancers are going! In any case, I think we had a nice time. Erin went to get Paco from his nursery school around the corner with about ten minutes left in the dance lesson. I think he got a real kick out of seeing me trying to dance with Hellen who in typical Norwegian style, stood about a head taller than I.
I'll post later about the wine tasting.
This is Erin now: To be fair, I had no problem following Paolo =)
